About the Owner

About Us Born in 1975 in South Germany into a students' household. My mother was a violinist in an orchestra, so music is in every memory of my childhood. My father earned a small wage giving cooking demonstrations and selling kitchenwares. Theses days, he's still a passionate baker at home, so Sunday afternoons back home are an irresistible time to spend in the kitchen smelling, tasting and watching him baking delicious cakes for the family.

With some French heritage, my family there are based in an area where the famous Patisserie & Boulangerie called Bardin has its origin. Actually the centre of this cosy and hearty place is the 17th Arrondissement at Rue Cardinet, Paris, close to the Arc de Triomph. This is where our larger family's Baguettes tradition with flutes, viennoiseries and croissants is still continuing: from the "cakes classiques", the hand-made patisserie and all kinds of styles: Lemon cakes, Strawberry cakes, Eclair au chocolat, Paris Brest, Black forest.....they have a strong commitment to the original French style. With such a strong influence from my family parts, we all love baking - it comes from deep in our hearts.

To this Art de vivre comme des rois en France (way of living like kings in France) my background is a technical one. I am a civil engineer with years working for various international projects.

My husband came to Beijing, China in October 2007, and I followed in April 2008. China was a real surprise as we hadn't planned any particular destination, but had wanted to move overseas for a couple of years.

I am a product of many places through and through. I grew up mostly in smaller cities, going to school in the countryside, and spending a little time in the city - as a city and country girl at heart, I feel comfortable in most parts of the world. I still get an indescribable and breathtaking but overwhelming feeling standing on Victoria Peak in Hong Kong, enjoy skyline-dreaming overlooking Beijing from the 65th floor of a hotel or relaxing in the so-called "Tuscany of Germany", South German wine region, overlooking Alsace and the Rhine river. I suppose it's the feeling that so many worlds co-exist, that you can lose yourself in any one of them.

As a pretty energetic person, I immediately started working when I arrived in Beijing.

Arriving in Beijing, I visited many events at schools, exhibitions and workshops and realized the lack of a stand or bar with a good cup of cappuccino or Cafe latte or Rooibos Tea. There were many other friends and people I met mentioning that they miss the good old version of cream on top, the earthy strong taste of good quality coffee and even for their own private parties this was an option. Ideas quickly started generating, filling many sheets of paper with to-do lists, local market analysis and details from meetings with Beijing ren who knew the coffee business, and foreign coffee shop and restaurant owners, finally resulting in my mobile catering bar for events called "CoffeeArtCafe".

Hence the very special and unique reason why there is no fixed location and coffee bar is:
We are wherever you and your friends are!
Spontaneous, always with a solution in first hand!

You can reach anything,
if you trust yourself and make you feel home
where ever you are and
where ever you go.

Dear Bianca, also this year the German Christmas Charity Bazaar was a very successful event with 500 helping people and around 4000 visitors. Together with your generous contribution, we were able to raise a total of 581 057,60 RMB. According to our preliminary calculation we will be able to distribute this year at least 430.000 RMB to the following projects: Beijing Huiling(www.huiling.org.cn) Beijing Sun Village (www.ertongcun.com) Hope Foster Home (www.hopefosterhome.com) Stars and Rain (www.autismchina.org) Hongdandan (www.hongdandan.ngo.cn) Love and Hope Center (www.aisee.org) Golden Key (www.goldenkey.org.cn) We are confident to increase the net proceeds and distribute even more, after our final calculation will be finished by the end of January.
It was the first time for your company to join our event. We were impressed about the choice and quality of your coffee and tea products and the appearance of the stall. On behalf of all the women who worked to make this year’s Christmas Bazaar a success, I wish to express our gratitude for your donation and hope that we can rely on your support of our efforts again in 2010.
Photos from the bazaar are loaded on our new homepage www.weihnachtsbasar-peking.de as well as your company on our sponsor page.
With all the best wishes for a successful New Year, I remain
Sincerely yours,
Steffi Schluechter
